The Sports People opened its doors in the fall of 1975 after a summer of renovating the building on Main Street that was to be its home in Bedminster for nineteen years. It was a small shop in the ground floor and carried ski and tennis merchandise. As the store grew to include the first and second floor, eventually including the basement, merchandise increased from the original ski and tennis to expand as diversely as hockey skates and running shorts. In 1983 a pivotal change occurred when the adjacent building became the bike annex.

Over the years the store and annex in Bedminster began to resemble your sports equipment bag before a two-week trip. In 1994, before the potential outward collapse of the walls, The Sports People moved to its second location in Far Hills and quadrupled its size. The Fly Fishing Shop began in 1995. Our history has seen transitions through sailboards, kayaks, and roller blades. We still restring tennis rackets and sell tennis accessories.

The Fall of 2008 marked the 33rd ski season and 23rd year for the Bike Shop and our present categories of merchandise. Tucked within our walls are the obvious ski, bike, and fly fishing shops with their respective equipment and appropriate clothing. We also have fun active wear, platform tennis, yoga wear, and our technical and winter clothing providing additional surprises. The Bike Shop boasts a substantial tri-athlete collection,(bikes,clothing wetsuits) Fly Fishing Shop not only sells fly fishing merchandise but offers trips and lessons. The Ski Shop has ski and snowboards for purchase, rentals, or leasing. All of it is here plus experts with the uncanny ability to make ski boots really comfortably and bicycles work at maximum efficiency. Come in and see us.
